2nd Lt Alexander Sherriff, attd. 6th/7th Bn Royal Scots Fusiliers was killed in action 22nd March 1918. He was the son of Mrs Sherriff, 7 Kirkstile, Hawick. Twice previously wounded in action, he was 22 years of age. He enlisted as a private in the Gordon Highlanders in September 1914. His good conduct and bravery in the field earned him a commission. He was previously employed by Messrs Scoon & Hood, tweed manufacturers.
The O.C., writing to Mrs Sherriff, said: "The commanding officer and officers of the battalion wish to convey their deepest sympathy to you in the sad loss of your son. They all feel that in his death they have sustained a personal loss, but will always be proud to remember him as a true comrade who fell in the service of his country."
